Me and a friend built a 4'x4' table that replicated about 2½ square miles of Belgium in 1815, and painted over 1000 1/4-inch tall soldiers, dozens of horses and some artillery, all in period-accurate uniforms for one of the last battles of the Napoleonic wars. (2/3)
At a weekend-long convention, I demoed a strategy game using the miniatures on the battlefield I made, and got a lot of positive feedback from people who had never played Napoleonics... or never played miniature strategy games at all! (3/3)
